Gilpin

The Reverend William Gilpin, Vicar of Boldre in the New Forest, was a well-known antiquarian in the late eighteenth century, who promoted the idea of the 'picturesque' in art and landscaping. Based upon what is known of his character and life, he becomes a supporting character in the 'Alice' chapter of THE FOREST.
