Battle Of The Boyne

The famous battle, in 1690, ended the attempt of Catholic King James II to hold out against his son-in-law, the Protestant Prince William of Orange, who had taken his English kingdom from him. But the battle was not, as is often supposed, a straightforward fight between Catholic and Protestant; and the circumstances of the battle are discussed in Rutherfurd's second Irish book, in the chapter entitled 'The Staff of Saint Patrick'.
